Default Ammo warning from CMMG

Ammunition Warning

With the growing popularity of the AR-15/M16 family of rifles the demand for ammunition has risen sharply. Unfortunately, this has made quality ammunition hard to find. CMMG recommends using only domestic, commercially manufactured ammunition or high quality surplus NATO specification ammunition.

Using any reloaded ammunition, any steel cased ammunition or Wolf Ammunition VOIDS your Limited Lifetime Warranty.

When purchasing domestically produced ammunition, questions can be answered by contacting the manufacturer directly. They will have the most accurate information about their products. If you have a problem with any ammunition be sure to have the lot number from the packaging that the ammunition in question came from; the manufacturer will need this information.

When purchasing surplus ammunition, it is not likely that the manufacturer is known or can be contacted. Most surplus ammunition is not from questionable sources, but some surplus ammunition is from rejected lots that did not meet a required specification. Find out as much as you can or purchase a small sample of the surplus ammunition before purchasing larger quantities. AR-15.com has the Ammo Oracle, and can answer most questions on ammunition. Many message boards will also have posts with reviews on ammunition by members. While these resources do not represent the final authority in ammunition related issues, they serve as a helpful guide for general information concerning various types of ammunition.

Before Firing Any Ammunition, inspect each cartridge for defects. Dispose of cartridges that exhibit and of the following defects:

* Deformed brass, which includes burrs, cracks, dents, scratches, bent or bowed cases.
* Deformed bullet, which includes burrs, dents and scratches.
* Improperly seated bullets. The case neck should be uniform with no deformations and the bullet should be seated tightly in the case. Check overall length to ensure the bullet is not seated too deeply or has been pushed in from an impact. Some ammunition may have a colored sealant around the case neck.
* Improperly seated primers. The primer should be flush with the base of the case with no visible damage to the primer cup. Some ammunition may have a colored sealant around the primer.
* Corroded cartridges with any amount of metal that is corroded and eaten away.
* Do not fire cartridges exposed to extreme heat (135 degrees F) until they have cooled.

Warning Signs
Not all defective ammunition has visible traits to distinguish it from good ammunition. If any cartridge from a lot of ammunition exhibits any of the following characteristics, discontinue the use of the entire lot and contact the manufacturer or dispose of the ammunition properly.

* Inconsistent function. This can also be a firearm related malfunction. Clean and test the rifle with another source of ammunition. If proper function is restored discontinue the use of the suspect ammunition immediately.
* Blown primers. This is an indication of improper powder charge. Discontinue the use of the suspect ammunition immediately.
* Inconsistent sound. Noticeably louder or quieter reports indicate improper powder charge. Discontinue the use of the suspect ammunition immediately.
* Cartridge fails to chamber. This can also be a firearm related malfunction. Clean and test the rifle with another source of ammunition. If proper function is restored discontinue the use of the suspect ammunition immediately.

Other ammunition related problems can occur. If you believe that ammunition you are using is preforming in an inconsistent manner, do not take any chances that you are experiencing a one-off occurrence. Discontinue the use of the suspect ammunition and contact the manufacturer.

Your rifle is a sizable investment. Make every effort to use quality ammunition, to ensure your safety and and prolong the life of your firearm for years of enjoyment.

Hmmmm.... I dont know about that, and this coming from a company that builds mid grade rifles? Specially since wolf guarantees their ammo?

Something sounds fishy..... Sorta like car dealers telling you that getting your oil changed else where will void your warranty...

Hmmm... scary. I guess I won't shoot Wolf out of my non-existent AR-15.

On the other hand, Lee tells you not to use (I think) Federal primers...

That's what I was thinking. Wolf IS dirty ammo and the steel case will cause more wear faster but other than that they probably wouldn't be able to tell.

Kappy Lee tells you not to use Federal Primers because they are softer, then CCI, and REM, and WIN, they dont want their auto primers to blow up in your hand, and set off a chain reaction,

Federal primers are the best on the market hands down, no one makes a more consistent and reliable primer as does Federal.

DPMS has all the same warnings plus some, they want you to use ammo made in good ole USA. No problems with mine, in fact it loves Silver Bear 62gr hp. I've run Wolf, Brown Bear, Prvi, S&B, PMC.223=SMELLS LIKE SH!T without any problems. Federal/Lake City are great as well. I've also got some gun show reloads but haven't used these yet. If you can afford the good stuff shoot it.

Below is from DPMS:
Ammunition Warning

After extensive testing, we have found
that only ammunition manufactured to SAAMI (Sporting Arms and
Ammunition Manufacturers Institute) specifications is reliable in DPMS
rifles. DPMS recommends the use of high quality, domestically produced
ammunition for best results and highest accuracy. For plinking and
practice, we recommend only domestic, commercially manufactured
ammunition. Please note: the use of re-loaded ammunition voids the
factory warranty. The use of all ammunition listed below also voids the
warranty.

We have incurred feeding problems with the following:

Israeli ammunition
Korean ammunition
Chilean ammunition
Portugese ammunition

We
have reviewed several reports, from several manufacturers', regarding
problems using this ammunition. The problem appears to be the bullet
contour and the overall length of the cartridge, which is contacting
the rifling before firing. This is creating a gas port pressure and
chamber pressure higher than recommended, therefore causing feeding and
extraction problems due to the increased bolt carrier velocity. In
addition, there is accelerated fatigue on internal parts. There are
also indications that brass may be out of spec, which could create an
unsafe condition.

PMP
South African produced surplus

We
have used this ammunition in the past for testing purposes and found
the brass is extremely soft and can "flow" into microscopic pores and
grooves in the chamber creating "sticky" extraction. This has been
reported in many types of rifles, but is more prevalent in
semi-automatic weapons.

Lacquer Coated Ammunition or Steel-cased, lacquer coated ammunition

Wolf
Norinco
Silver Bear
Any steel-cased (coated or non-coated) ammunition

The
problem with this ammunition is that the lacquer coating on the case.
As the barrel heats up, the lacquer turns to a soft, varnish substance
and upon cool down, becomes very solid and difficult to remove. This
effectively creates an undersized chamber and creates understandable
problems.

DPMS recommends the use of high
quality, domestically produced ammunition for best results and highest
accuracy. For plinking and practice, we recommend only domestic,
commercially manufactured ammunition or high quality surplus NATO
specification ammunition.

Your rifle is an investment and it only makes sense to choose quality ammunition for a quality rifle!
Barrel Information

To
achieve the best results for accuracy you should clean the chamber and
bore after every round for the first 25 rounds and then every 10 rounds
up to the 100 rounds. It usually takes about 200 rounds per barrel for
optimum accuracy. Please keep in mind that our barrels are production
barrels not custom barrels. Accuracy is dependant upon many factors
such as bullet weight, powder load, rifling twist, rifling lands,
operator technique, etc. Our production barrels have achieved anywhere
from 1/8" to 1 ½" M.O.A. Obviously, we would hope that every production
barrel would shoot 1/8" M.O.A., but with all of the above factors, we
cannot guarantee a specific group size.

Only using high quality ammo? Trying to put off the reloaders and keep the price of ammo a little higher than normal or upping the sales cos so many people have turned to reloading.
